Little Big League – Tropical Jinx

Next on my Boston sound kick is Little Big League. Although they are technically from Philly, LBL signed to the Boston centric Run For Cover Records and released their sophomore album, Tropical Jinx, about a year ago. The intimate vocals of Michelle Zauner are accompanied by a thicket of guitar and a tight rhythm section. The sound is comfortable in the best way – not simple or complacent, but feeling like home wherever you happen to be.

Enjoy,

Kal Marks – Life Is Murder

Where did I first see Kal Marks? Was it at Shea Stadium, Death By Audio (RIP), or perhaps the Silent Barn (rise from the ashes)? No matter the DIY venue, their music is unforgettable. The trio appears small when they pick up their instruments but they quickly dispel that notion as the viscous envelope of sound forces even the snootiest New Yorkers to undulate their bodies. Kal released an excellent 7″ in December of last year, but my heart was truly won over with Life is Murder so you should start with that one as well.

Enjoy,
j

Noteworthy: My roommate is currently solo-moshing as I listen/review this album.
