Makers / Mantis

Today’s feature is on two bands with shared personnel – Hugo, Lily, and Paco comprise the heavier and rougher group, Mantis, and the addition of Gaby and Sean creates the more serene quintet, Makers. The bands have one release each, both from 2012, and both occupying a unique sonic space. From what I can tell, their music is not well circulated, but that’s certainly not for lack of quality. Makers mixes ringing, clanging and plunking percussion with closely interwoven falsetto harmonies. Mantis hits harder (reminiscent of previously posted Graph) and their demo is raw in all of the right aways. I strongly recommend both bands for completely different reasons.
